OUR STORY
REAL TEQUILA FOR REAL PEOPLE
6 MIN READ
PEOPLE ARE AT THE HEART OF EVERYTHING WE DO
It all started with just one hard-working visionary in 1922 in the sun-kissed highlands of Jalisco, Mexico who spent years perfecting a tequila recipe for his friends and family. This closely guarded secret recipe was passed down by word of mouth for generations. In the early 1970’s, his grandson carried on the dream of creating the best tequila and opened a distillery to share the tequila with more people. His legacy became “Cazadores,” or “The Hunters,” named after the journey, the majestic stags that roam our agave fields, and symbolizing the years the one hard-working man spent searching for the perfect tequila recipe to share with family and friends.
The stag, a symbol of knowledge, wisdom, and confidence, embodies the spirit of our people and culture. Stories of his adventurous spirit and proud character are passed by word of mouth from one generation to another, so much so that he belongs to folklore as much as to the land. Thus, the stag became the symbol of Cazadores, whose meaning can be likened to a quest.
Today, the passion of one family from the highland town of Arandas in Jalisco, Mexico, is carried on by the entire Cazadores community, where everyone from the jimador farmers to the taquerías who feed the bottlers works together to make tequila for the joy of it and infuses a collective pride and energy into every drop.
As we raise a glass to celebrate 100 years of one hard-working man’s vision and exacting craftsmanship, nothing brings us more joy than sharing it with our community. Salud!
OUR UNIQUE PROCESS
There are many ways to make tequila, but we only live by one: 100-percent pure Blue Weber Agave, or agave tequilana—nothing more, nothing less. We don’t add sugars or dyes. We just keep it real, like we’ve always done.
We use the original secret recipe from 1922 to this day and bring it to life through a modern and fully sustainable production process that creates zero waste. That’s right: agave makes our tequila and powers our distillery. We win awards for our minimal carbon footprint, but we’re not in it for the glory. We do it because we care about the future of our land and our people.
At our distillery, our seven-step process moves from double distillation to careful maturation to bring out the exquisite flavors of the agave. We take our time: after all, perfection can’t be rushed. Our jimadors start by harvesting the piñas after they age for six to eight years, and we extract 99% of the raw agave juice through a unique 24-step diffusion process rather than cooking them first. There is a theory that music can soothe the yeast and water particles to create a better-tasting tequila, and so during our long fermentation process we play Mozart to calm ours.
The result is unrivaled: award-winning, wonderfully smooth tequila from the heart of Mexico that tastes just like it did 100 years ago. Because that’s what we do and you can count on us. We’ll always be here in the highlands, making tequila our way.
